There are many shinto ceremonies with mask left in Nara prefecture. (Mask at Nara) A lot of masks are originated from "Sarugaku". I think it is
a reason "Sarugaku", the original of "Nougaku", had
been popular at Nara and Kasuga shrine with traditional festival "Kasugawakamiya_onmatsuri",
had governed all the Yamato district. However the masks of Tennou festival
at Kanpata_shrine are different from the others and have some mysterious
appearance. I guess " Tenjin Autumn Festival"at Ueno, a neibour
castle town from Yamasoe village, have great effect on Tennou festival.
Because "Tenjin Autumn Festival" is popular in the Parade of
"Oni", Japanese evil. The face of Oni is very mysterious and
similar to them at Tennou festival. In the otherside, we can see "Dengaku
dance" in Tennou festival under the influence of Kasuga shrine. Yamasoi
village is located at the boundary among Yamato, Iga & Ise, and show
various caltural factors under the influence of Kasuga shrine, Ise shrine
