Omizutiri at the Nigatsudo of Todai temple has already ended, but similar ceremony will be held on April 8 at Shinyakushi temple. Both Buddhism ceremony have same root, "Shunie", which aim at making a confession to a Buddha. In Heian era, it was held at every temple, but now only at Shinyakushi temple and Yakushi temple (Hanaeshiki, April 5) except Nigatsudo. Same action, "Otaimatsu", was applied to Shinyakushi temple because this temple have been governed in long term by Toudai temple. By the way, In the case of Shinyakushi temple, there is no big stage in the reverse of Nigatsudo, but we can see it more nearly. The figure of torches are eleven as same as Nigatsudo. I think it is a ceremony for enjoying spring, toward Omizutori at Nigatsudo for calling spring. (All photos-Otaimatsu at Shinyakushi temple)
