One day I had pursued the ceremony of Jizoue at Naramachi. The faith for Jizou Bodhisattva, kSiti gharbha, had prospered around Gankou temple and Fukuchiin temple at Naramachi in Kamakura Era. Gangoji Institute for Research of Cultural Property was founded in 1967 in order to research the numerous boddhism items offered by the people which remained at Gankou temple in the middle age. I felt the large energy of people in the middle age when we saw numrerous small wooden images in those exhibits.
Jizou is regarded as a Bodhisattva who help the people while 5,670,000, 000 years after the die of Shaka till the birth of Miroku Bodhisattva and pray the died children. So it is the reason that the ceremony of Jozoue remained all over the Japan is said "the Festival for Children".
There are many temple with the images of Jizoue Bodhisattva and the ceremony of Jizoue are held here and there at Naramachi in July and August. (Jizoue-at Naramachi) Especially the image of Jizou Bodhisattva at Denkou temple is famous as a nude image and is changed the cloth by the villagers at the ceremony of Jizoue once a year. (Jizoue-Denkou temple)
