Ohmiwa shrine is one of the most oldest shrine in Japan. there is famous ceremony, Nyodousai, at Ohmiwa_shrine, in whish younger mens with a big torch go around eighteen attached shrines located at the foot of Mt. Miwa at mid-night of new year day.
It is very croud around the main shrine where the festival start at 1:00 am, but it become solemn soonly when the menbers go to Yamanobe way, one of the ancent road, at the foot of the mountain in the darkness. They run on the long way like as marathon. Ususally cameramen wait at thefixed spot. But that time I tried to go together with a camera and a tripod. It took three hours to see all performance. Maybe it is only me to go with them in all way at New year day, but in reverse this photo seemed to be very rare.
