Yasumigaokahachiman_shrine is located in front of the south gate of Yakushi_temple. It is very small and not noticeable, but the old shrine founded in the Heian era. The hachiman shrines were ordinarily worshiped as a guardian god in the public temples at Nara. It was first time the hachiman god of Usahachiman_shrine at Ooita moved to the Nara as a guardian god of Toudai temple in Nara era. After that the hachiman shrines have been built in the big temples at Nara, Daian temple, Yakushi temple and Saidai temple. Now those shine have been kept by "Miyaza" the committee by villagers. "Taisai" of Yasumigaokahachiman shrine is very famous of Sumou wrestling. There are many sumou ceremonies left in Nara prefecture.(Sumou at Nara) Those are promoted as a Shinto ceremony, but not sport.(All photos- Taisai of Yasumigaoka shrine)
