Tradition says Nanmyou temple was founded at Sakahara-cho, Nara city, in
771 A.C. by No name's Indian Priests who had came across sea. In Nara Era,
famous Indian Priest Gicchu started the significant buddism ceremony, Shunie,
at Nigatsudo of Toudai temple. Additionally he caved the big stone Buddism
image at Mt. Kasagi and established Kannondai temple at Shimagahara in
the Iga district where he had lived till his die. Nanmyou temple is located
on the way from Nigatsudo to Kasagi and Kannondai Temple. We consider there
was a way for pilgrimage by esoteric Buddhism from Nigatsudo towards Kannondai
temple through Nanmyou temple and Mt. Kasagi. We can make a image this
way connected to the destinations of pilgrim in the Oumi district and
Saint Mt. Tateyama in the Hokuriku distinct. I think Nanmyou temple is
one of most mysterious places in Nara. This ceremony is held in Autumn
for dedicating the chrysanthemum flower to Yakushi-Nyorai. |
